Meet the Team
We’re not even half way through the year, but here at Merchant Taylors’ Hall we’ve had a busy 2015 so far. As well as hosting some fabulous weddings, awards dos, conferences and special dinners, we’ve had some new additions to the staff and a bit of a re-jig. Let us introduce you to the team in full…
Simon Fooks is Merchant Taylors’ Hall’s Managing Director and is the venue’s longest-serving member of staff with 33 years of service behind him. Simon joined Merchant Taylors’ as Head Chef so he truly understands the importance of food and drink at any event. As, of course, does our current resident Head Chef, Richard Trant.
Our kitchen has been producing exquisite fine dining for over 500 years, and Richard has been intrinsically involved for the last 25. He is renowned for his imaginative menus, using seasonal ingredients and producing original dishes which reflect the essence of his clients’ events. Richard says ‘I love working with the global culinary tastes of clients so my skillset and training are constantly challenged.’ A new and exciting addition to his team is Sous Chef Julian Garner. Julian joins Richard’s staff from Senate House.
We’re also delighted to welcome another new member to the Merchant Taylors’ Hall team, James Evans-Bird who joins as Assistant Front of House Manager. James joins us from the Caledonian Club and Front of House Manager, Keith Thornberry thinks he’s the perfect fit. ‘James is very personable and great at making our clients feel special, which is what we pride ourselves on here.’
Robert Beeney is Merchant Taylors’ Operations Manager and Simon’s no.2. It’s his job to make sure the ‘behind-the-scenes’ logistics of your event run seamlessly by overseeing the catering, front of house and organisation of your event. Robert puts much of Merchant Taylors’ success down to the communication amongst its Events Team. ‘At any event, the entire team understands the client’s vision. This ensures they get exactly what they want, when they want it.’
This communication is led by the Events Co-ordinators. Any organiser planning an event at Merchant Taylors’ Hall will be given a dedicated event co-ordinator from our Sales and Marketing team.
Heading up the team is Sales and Marketing Manager, Liz Morgan, whose job it is to oversee all the bookings and manage her team of co-ordinators. Liz says ‘No two days are the same and that’s what keeps it interesting and us on our toes. We work to ensure that all of our clients and guests have the best time as we are looking to forge long standing partnerships not just one off’s’. Tanja Nielsen is our Senior Sales and Events Co-ordinator and has been at Merchant Taylors’ for 9 years. The Events Team also includes our two Sales and Events Co-ordinators, Zara Sharples and Claire Treagus. Between them, Claire, Zara and Tanja have organised hundreds of events in all nine of the stunning spaces at Merchant Taylors’, but they are divided on which room is their favourite. Zara and Tanja love the genteel ambience and bright colours of the Drawing Room, but Claire favours the majesty and grandeur of The Great Hall.
