Room layout and details for The GardenThe Garden was an enclosed vineyard and orchard during the 14th century. Subsequent architectural developments encroached into the cultivated areas and by 1415 the garden was little more than a lawn. The 16th century saw the addition of a bowling alley built to one side. There was little further change until the beginning of this century. An ornate fountain was then built and a bronze statue by Gilbert Bayes of St. John the Baptist as a child was added in 1914. More recently the whole garden was repaved and flower beds rearranged.
